Mark Morelli
Photographic Portraits of Homeless Veterans

For three years, Mr. Morelli photographed residents at the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans. Beginning the project just after the end of the Gulf War in 1991, he had been deeply affected by a news story of a veteran who had died, penniless, at the Shelter. This exhibit will present 25 portraits of veterans from all branches of the service, background information on the Shelter, and the project for the photographer, and will focus on the veterans themselves, "...in an attempt to put a human face on a problem that is too often reduced to a statistic." Mr. Morelli graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in journalism and presently resides in the Boston area where he works as a freelance photographer.
