Designer Kantha Sari

20th Century, Bengal

Exquisite Kantha embroidery on off-white Tussar silk.

This unique sari which took more than a year to embroider is an exclusive example of ‘Kantha’ work. In its original form, Kantha embroidery was a form of quilting. The embroidery done with colorful threads is mainly executed in darning stitch that gives it a beautiful dotted effect. This embroidery called ‘do rukha’ is so fine that no difference can be seen on either side of the embroidery.
