A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Michael Sundra graduated from Paier College of Art in 1972 with a degree in photography. Since then he has followed a successful commercial career as well as creating a large body of photographic and mixed media art. Since 1991, he has begun experimenting with painting directly onto the surface of his black and white prints Mr. Sundra continues to do his own darkroom work, producing prints of exceptional quality. The current exhibit will feature new photographic portraits and newly printed work from the Venice Beach, California series begun in 1987. Following a well-received exhibit of Venice Beach material at Bushnell Memorial Hall in 1993, Mr. Sundra returned to California later that year and has just recently begun printing the results of that trip. Several of these new works, many of them diptychs, will premiere for this show. Mr. Sundra has guest-lectured and exhibited widely in the state and nationally with works held in a number of notable corporate and private collections. He currently resides in Farmington with his wife Marilyn and children Zoë and Demia.
