Dodd Center Opens for Users; Thomas Wilsted is New Director

Following last October's high profile dedication ceremony, featuring President William Clinton, staff of the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center went to work preparing the building for occupancy and readying collections for the move to their new home. The move began on January 2, 1996, and although slightly delayed by the blizzard of January 8, was completed successfully two weeks later. In stark contrast to the pomp and circumstance of the October dedication, the newly merged Archives and Special Collections Department quietly opened for service at the beginning of the spring semester.

Capping these events was the welcome news that Thomas P. Wilsted had accepted an appointment as the first director of the Dodd Research Center. Mr. Wilsted most recently served as associate director for operations at the American Heritage Center, University of Wyoming, Laramie. His earlier posts include service as archivist/administrator of the Salvation Army Archives and Research Center in New York City; manuscripts librarian with the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington, New Zealand; and field service representative for the Illinois State Historical Society. Tom holds an undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College and earned his master's degree in American History from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He assumes his new duties in the Dodd Center on March 29. You are cordially invited to visit or call and introduce yourself and your interests to him.
