NEW APPOINTMENTS

Tara L. Hurt began her employment in the Libraries as an undergraduate working in the Culpeper Library. Following her graduation in 1994, she gained temporary employment in the Special Collections Department, where she helped to plan and implement the move to the Dodd Research Center. In November 1996, she was the successful candidate for a permanent new position in the Dodd Center and joined the staff as coordinator of reader services.

Carolyn V. Mills, a member of Research & Information Services, is a science reference librarian and the Libraries' new liaison to the biological sciences departments. She holds a BS degree in environmental science from Allegheny College and earned her MLS degree from the University of Rhode Island. She was previously employed as assistant science librarian in the O'Callahan Science Library, College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA; and more recently as coordinator of the Medical Library at Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, RI.

Linda Perrone, a UConn alumna, joined the Libraries' staff as director of development in January 1997. She is a former member of Community and Campus Relations in the Office of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, where her most recent assignment was director of the Dodd Year. In that role, she held major responsibility for coordinating the year-long series of events that began with President Clinton's dedication of the Dodd Research Center and concluded with an appearance by Mikhail Gorbachev.

Tom K. Plunkett joined the library staff in 1993 as an undergraduate student employee assisting in the development of the Libraries' gopher. He has since occupied a series of temporary appointments, assuming greater responsibility for Spirit, the Libraries' information server. In January 1997, he became a permanent member of Information Technology Services as a senior microcomputer programmer/systems analyst.

Rutherford W. Witthus assumed the responsibilities of coordinator for technical services and automation in the Dodd Research Center in October 1996. He is the former head of archives and special collections at Auraria Library in Denver, a library that serves four academic institutions in downtown Denver, including the University of Denver. He holds BA and MA degrees in philosophy, as well as an MLS degree from the University of Denver.
