CLAS & Map Library Establish Center for Geographic Information & Analysis

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Libraries' Map Library & Geographic Information Center (MAGIC) have joined forces to create the new UConn Center for Geographic Information & Analysis (CGIA). Set up to conduct geographic analyses on a cost recovery basis, the CGIA has surpassed expectations in its first few months of existence. It has already has been commissioned for four funded projects totalling $77,665: "Real Estate Database & GIS Curriculum Development;""A Computer-Intensive Evaluation of Congressinonal Districting Plans: A Five-State Study;" "Establishing a National Spatial Data Infrastructure Clearinghouse Node for Connecticut;" and "GIS Support for Data Fusion/Spatial Reasoning." Two additional proposals, totalling $211,392, are pending: "Deveveloping a Framework for Connectciut Hydrologic Data" and "The University of Connecticut Government Information System Project." The CGIA, now working out of MAGIC, will eventually have its own quarters on Level 4 of the Babbidge Library.
