The North American Congress on Latin America (NACLA) has donated its working archive to the Dodd Research Center. Founded in 1966 in response to the 1965 U.S. invasion of the Dominican Republic, NACLA's mission has been to provide comprehensive and accurate information and analysis concerning the impact of U.S. policy and institutions on Latin America. It also tracks political, economic, and cultural developments in the region. Since 1967, NACLA's findings and analysis have been disseminated through its newsletter, currently titled Report on the Americas.
The archive consists of more than 100 linear feet of material and includes a wide range of documentation, with its principal strength in primary sources such as serials, reports, flyers, pamphlets, and posters from the 1960s through the 1980s. Collected by NACLA staff over two decades, the archive formed the core of their working library.
The most notable holdings overall occur for Central America, Chile, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. Other countries are covered more topically. Politics, socioeconomic conditions, solidarity groups, human and civil rights, and church and religion are covered in depth throughout the collection.
