Library Staff News

Jeanne Gavin joined the Babbidge Library staff in October; following the award of her MLS degree from Simmons College Graduate School of Library Science in December she will serve as collections management librarian. Jeanne has worked previously in libraries at Boston University, Dartmouth College and SUNY Stony Brook.
Sue Gibbs, who joined the library staff in 1966, will retire at the end of January 1999. In the course of her library career, she has worked as an assistant in circulation/reserve and as a cataloger. In 1979, she became the supervisor of Microtext Service, which evolved into Microtext/Electronic Services. Sue has supervised processing operations in Research & Information Services since 1989 and is currently acting supervisor of the Culpeper Media Library.
Bill Hughes is Babbidge Library's new information technology support coordinator. Previously, he was employed as a systems consultant at Corporate Information Technologies where he provided network/desktop support and supervised technical staff.
David Kapp, formerly associate director for collections & information services, will retire at the end of December 1998. David joined the staff in 1970 as an administrative assistant for public services. His responsibilities grew to include management of the library's public service and collection development programs. In addition, he has directed the facilities planning, exhibitions and publications activities of the library. Most recently, his responsibilities focused on library advancement and renovation of the Babbidge Library.
Lesa von Munkwitz-Smith has joined the staff of Information Technology Services as public workstation coordinator. Her previous experience was at the University of Minnesota where she served as a user services specialist in the Academic and Distributed Computing Services area.
Fyiane Nsilo-Swai is a new member of Collections Services where her responsibilities include administrative support for the area, the acquisition of library materials and maintenance of the Dewey collection. She has previously worked in the Babbidge Circulation Department and as an Information Desk assistant.
Bill Uricchio has assumed new responsibilities as the director the Trecker Library on the UConn/Greater Hartford campus. Bill was formerly the head of Bibliographic Control and in recent years has served as a collections curator in the Dodd Research Center.
Steven Wieda, a UConn graduate, is the Libraries' new webmaster. He has been the webmaster and computer network technician for the UConn Student Union for three years, where he developed a calendar system that has since been adopted for the university's web site.
