Class of 1949 Targets Music/Drama Library for 50th Anniversary Gift

The Class of 1949 has launched a fundraising campaign to raise $100,000 as their 50th anniversary class gift to the university, pledging that gift to the new Music & Dramatic Arts Library now under construction in the School of Fine Arts complex. Inspired and challenged by the two most recent 50th anniversary classes, who raised $25,000 for the Class of 1947 Conference Room in the Babbidge Library, and $50,000 for the Class of 1948 Electronic Classroom in Babbidge, the Class of '49 has set an ambitious goal for itself. The new, 15,000 square feet Music & Dramatic Arts Library will triple the space currently available in the Cookson Music Library, providing space for more than 32,000 sound recordings, and for growing book, journal, and video holdings. For the first time, listeners will have the ability to control the playback of recordings in individual listening carrels and in small group listening rooms. Comfortable new seating will furnish quiet study areas, and secure research study carrels will be available for qualified graduate students. A new seminar room will provide space for instruction, staff training, and presentations by guest speakers. The Class of 1949 will present their class gift to president Philip E. Austin on June 5 during a luncheon that will be held at his residence to honor the class for their generosity.
