"Adopt a Collection"

Projects Access to many valuable collections acquired by Archives & Special Collections is either limited or altogether unavailable because they remain unprocessed and unorganized for public use. Processing costs vary tremendously, determined as they are by the size and complexity of the collection. They can range from less than $1000 for a small collection upwards of $35,000 or even more for a large, complex collection. Opportunities to adopt a collection, and thus to enhance public access, exist in every subject area within Archives & Special Collections: railroads, business, alternative press, literary archives, university archives, children's literature and others. Once a collection has been organized and finding aids have been created, this information is posted to the Dodd Center's web site. The following short list is intended to provide just a few examples of the many opportunities available. Costs represent an estimate based on labor and supplies required. For more complete information, please contact Thomas Wilsted, head of Archives & Special Collection in the Dodd Center at 869-486-4501. Donor support will be acknowledged both on the web site and also on the printed finding aids produced for the collection.
