The Dodd Center is pleased to announce its first major publication: Leonard Everett Fisher: A Life of Art, a tribute to Mr. Fisher's 40-year career as an author and illustrator of children's books. The oversize, 94 page book has 64 color illustrations. It includes Mr. Fisher's essay, "Creative Connections;" an introduction by Norman Stevens; a description of the Fisher archives by Ellen Embardo; and an evaluative essay, "Celebrating Leonard Everett Fisher," by Dr. Patricia J. Cianciolo of Michigan State University. Leonard Everett Fisher: A Life of Art is vivid testimony to the work of a prolific artist who has delighted both young and old with his stories and artwork for years. Mr. Fisher is the author and/or illustrator of an astonishing 260 books, both fiction and non-fiction. Sales of the new book will benefit the Northeast Children's Literature Collection, which aims to acquire, preserve and make available a research collection of American illustrated children's literature. Currently, the collection consists of more than 13,000 historically and artistically significant children's books and manuscript collections of children's authors and illustrators. Among the authors and illustrators with significant manuscript holdings are: Natalie Babbitt, Barbara Cooney, Eleanor Estes, Leonard Everett Fisher, Lillian Hoban, Nonny Hogrogrian, Ruth Krauss, James Marshall, Barry Moser, Richard Scarry, and Ed Young. Leonard Everett Fisher: A Life of Art may be purchased for $75 plus $5 shipping and handling per book. The portion of the purchase price above $50 is a donation to support the work of the Northeast Children's Literature Collection. Fifty signed copies, each with an original sketch by Mr. Fisher on the title page, are available at $150 each. Please inquire about discounts for multiple copies.
