'Tis the season for giving, and if you would like to make the Libraries the object of your generosity, please consider the following items. Linda Perrone will be pleased to talk with you about donating to the Libraries. You can reach her at 860-486-0451.
Repair and restoration of an 1857 Map of Tolland County: $1300 This wall map, a gift of emeritus professor Rudy Favretti, was created from 19th century surveys by Wm. C. Eaton and H. C. Osborn and was published for Woodford and Bartlett, Philadelphia, PA in 1857. Preservation of the map would be a valuable addition to the collection and a follow-up to an earlier gift from the Library Friends, who funded similar treatment for an 1852 Windham County wall map.
Decorative plant and planter for the Auriemma Reading Room: $500 Reserve Services Team members have some of the greenest thumbs in Babbidge Library. They care for the large plants in the Auriemma Reading Room but are looking for one more, large and healthy specimen-with appropriate planter. You can discuss the options with our head gardener, Dipa Roy, at 860-486-1158.
Digital Camera for Archives & Special Collections: $1200 A digital camera capable of storing images on a standard computer diskette would allow staff to fulfill student and researcher requests for research copies of oversize or fragile books.
Public Bulletin Boards for the Trecker Library: $550 each UConn's West Hartford campus library needs two freestanding bulletin boards for public notices. The boards, intended to reinforce the image of the library as an information center for the campus, will be placed in a prominent area in the library foyer. The donor's name will be displayed on each board.
Art for Public Spaces in Trecker Library The library is seeking donations of framed artwork for permanent display in its main floor public areas. Trecker's primary clientele is drawn from the social sciences. Colorful art depicting people at work or play and with multi-cultural themes is especially desirable. Artwork needs to be poster size or larger due to the height of the walls. The donor's name will be displayed adjacent to each piece. Gifts and loans of artwork will also be welcomed by other UConn libraries.
Exhibit Display Case for Trecker Library: $1200 Trecker needs a table display case for its lobby area. The locking, aluminum and glass case will be used to hold temporary displays, including artwork, information for students, scale drawings of new campus structures, recent research and publications of faculty members and other items of interest. The donor's name will be posted in a prominent location. Similar cases are also needed by the Babbidge Library and the Dodd Center.
