Loan Periods
As of July 1, 2007, faculty, staff, retirees, graduate students and honors undergraduate students may check out books for 6 months (180 days) and renew them online 5 times. The change allows books to be borrowed for 3 years before they must be returned. Although books may be borrowed for up to 3 years, they are still subject to RECALL under this new policy.Faculty, Graduate/Undergrad Honors Students, Staff, Retirees, Visiting Scholars

Returning Books
Return books to the Circulation Desk. Return recalled items, directly to the Circulation
Desk attendant. When the library is closed, books may be placed into the depository
slots outside of the library entrance. Receipts for returned items are available
upon request.
Renewals
- 180 day loans can renewed 5 times, unless requested by another borrower
- 30 day loans can be renewed twice, unless requested by another borrower
- Videos are non-renewable
Renewals may be requested in person, by phone or online. Any item that has reached its renewal limit, must be brought to the library.
Requesting Online Renewals:
- From the UConn Libraries Home Page
- Click on Homer, the library catatalog.
- Click on Renew Books/View Account button.
- Enter your NetID and Password.
- Click on Login.
- Under the Renew? column, click on the boxes of the titles you wish to renew.

At bottom of 'Items Checked Out' window, click on RENEW ITEMS.

Notices and Billing Information
Notices
Reminder notices are sent seven (7) days prior to the item coming due. Only one reminder notice is sent. If the item(s) are not returned or renewed by the due date, an overdue notice is sent. All library circulation notices are distributed via email. If you use an email address other than a huskymail or uconn.edu email address, you need to forward your UConn email to your non-University email address. You may do this at: http://huskymailforwarding.uconn.edu/. You will need to use your NetID to log in ( http://netid.uconn.edu) or see the UITS Huskymail Support site for more information.If you need assistance, please call Circulation at 203 251-9599.
Replacement Charges
Long overdue books are billed at $95 per item plus a $15 nonrefundable late return/billing fee. The $95 replacement cost is refundable, if the item is returned within one year of the billing date.
Recalled Items
Overdue recalled books are charged $5.00 a day/item; maximum of $50.

Suspension of Borrowing Privileges
Privileges are automatically suspended when a borrower:
- Has one overdue recalled book
- Has reached the charged book limit
- Has an expired record
A
suspension is automatically lifted when the condition causing it is rectified.

Journals
Journals do not circulate outside the Library. Holds may not be placed on journals. A photocopier is located on the first floor of the Library.
Policy on Confidentiality of Library Patron File
The identity of the borrower or requestor of a library item and the information contained in individualCirculation System patron records are confidential as mandated by State of Connecticut Public Act #76-421.
Such information is maintained in computerized files in order to enable Circulation Services to conduct its normal business:
- Maintenance
of information on the location and availability of library materials
- Compilation
of general usage statistics in respect to both collections and services
- Mailing
of notices, resolution of problems, collection of fines and bills for replacement
- Determination of patron eligibility to borrow library materials
Access to an individual’s record is available to:
- The individual patron represented in the record
- Circulation and Reserve Services Staff and Staff Assistants, and Interlibrary Loan staff in the performance of their assigned responsibilities.
Access to individual records by any other party, including other library staff who have "no need to know," other University staff, other state or federal employees, or other library patrons, is prohibited.
In unusual circumstance, the Circulation/Reserve Staff member may act as an intermediary between the borrower and requestor of an item, but the identity of both the borrower and the requestor must be preserved at all times.
Requests for exceptions to this policy must be made to Shelley Roseman, Director

University of Connecticut, One University Place,
Stamford, CT 06901-2315. Such requests must be in writing and must state the specific
purpose for which information is being requested. Exceptions to the policy will
not normally be made but may be considered in extreme circumstances.
Circulation Services is committed to the protection of the right to privacy of all library patrons and the prevention of harassment by other borrowers.
