Subject: clio-create lib symbol

Dear Clio users,

I have just started using clio and I am happy with it. I just wanted
to know if there is a way to create my own library symbols for ala
purposes. I have a huge list of ala symbols that we have been using
for some time and would like to choose these numbers over the numbers
clio will assign these libraries. Could I create my own through
Administration/Open tables/Libraries?
Thank you for your consideration,

Yes, this is a way that you can do this. The library symbols must be
unique, so don't add a symbol that may conflict with an OCLC symbol. A
symbol with all numbers will work. It would be best to do this while no one
else is using Clio.

If you have your existing non-OCLC libraries in a spreadsheet or a
database, it may be possible to add them more easily than typing them in.
Let me know if this is a possibility.

Warning: I am a new user (3 days old), so this may be a stupid question
but:

After I upload Pending requests in the Lender area, I am told that there
are new libraries. I then go through and edit the entries, and put them
into my preset groups. Next time I upload, I again get the same
messages. When I go through to edit, the libraries I already added are
still there (as well as the new ones that need editing). Do I always
have to go through the entire set? Is there some "add permanently" step
I'm missing?

Tim -

Be sure to mark the 'Updates Complete' clickbox in the lower right-
hand corner of each library record. If you mark this clickbox,
the record should no longer appear.

Comments: cc: ROHMILTD@wl.wpafb.af.mil, Meyerra@wl.wpafb.af.mil

Has anyone found a way to display the information in CLIO without
resizing the display on each window individually. We purchased CLIO to replace
a DBase program and the capability of importing records and layout is
excellent. Unfortunately, we have continuously experienced problems with CLIO
due to not locating an execution button. The Updates Complete button was not
visible until I resized my display. I do not have a large monitor, just a 14"
display with resolution set at 800 x 600 256 column.
If I don't tab through the choices I find the program frustrating at best. I
experienced the same problem just locating the search button from the
1) Main Menu
2) Go to Borrowing
3) Search Borrowing Requests
4) I lost 2 days till I found that I had to [Shift] [Tab] to the top of the
screen to locate the {Find Them Now} action button. I do not know if there is
a [Ctrl] or [Function] action key to execute the action- It would be nice.
While we have ordered 17" displays, the limitations caused by resizing to find
a command are causing a considerable loss in productive time.

One other question. We want to use our own control number for non-OCLC
requests. It appears the system is generating values based on an initial 0 and
incrementing by subtracting numbers. Is the only method of getting a control
number or is there a way to assign our own control number?

The proper setting for your display is 600 x 800 pixels and *small fonts*.
This should take care of any problems related to not being able to see
portions of the screens.

Yes.

I think you just need to change the font size to "small" and you should
be able to see the buttons. In fact, I learned that not all the boxes
will appear on the screen (even if there appears to be room) unless you
use a small font (which IS kind of a pain--guess I'm getting old, but I
NEED those large fonts!) I, too, often end us resizing back and forth
just for that reason. --cathy wright, USDOE
