The Information Literacy Program of the University of Connecticut Libraries provides students, faculty, and staff with an understanding of today's global information environment. The Information Literacy Program focuses on locating, evaluating, and using information resources competently and ethically; supports the research goals of the university curriculum; and helps equip our research community with the information and skills needed to become effective members of a complex society.

Instructional Objectives: Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Standards and Competencies

The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) has developed the Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education, a set of five standards expressed in measurable outcomes for assessing the information literacy skills of students in higher education. This set has been fully endorsed by the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE). Along with the University of Connecticut's proposed General Education Information Literacy Standards, these Standards and Competencies are guiding the Instruction Program Curriculum at the Libraries. Through the combined efforts of faculty, students, librarians, and technology staff, our students will gain, over their years at the University of Connecticut, the skills to be productive and capable leaders in a technological and ever changing world.
