James Marshall Fellowship Research Support for Children’s Author/IllustratorThe Northeast Children’s Literature Collection ( Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, University of Connecticut) in partnership with the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators is pleased to offer children’s authors and illustrators funding to use the substantial book and author/illustrator manuscript collections available in Storrs, Connecticut, in support of new writing and illustration projects. James Marshall FellowshipThe James Marshall Fellowship is awarded annually to a promising author or illustrator in the creation of text or illustrations intended for a children’s book, magazine, or other publication made possible by research using the unique materials in the Northeast Children's Literature Collection at the Thomas J. Grant Amount: Two awards of $1500 will be made annually. SelectionJames Marshall Fellowship Grants are awarded on a competitive basis to applicants who are selected by a committee composed of the Curator of the Northeast Children’s Literature Collection, a representative of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and a faculty member from the University of Connecticut. To be eligible, the candidate must demonstrate the significance of the project, his or her credentials, 2 letters of support and the need to use the Northeast Children's Literature Collection. Travel Grant Recipient ResponsibilitiesJames Marshall Fellowship Grant awardees agree to conduct their research at the Dodd Research Center as indicated in their proposal, meet with University faculty and library staff to discuss their research, and give a public presentation based on the outcome of their research. The recipient also agrees to donate relevant materials resulting from the project to the Northeast Children's Literature Collection.
