A Science Primer - an educational site from NCBI on bioinformatic, genetics, molecular genetics, microarrays, phylogenetics, etc.
BioChem Hub - an extensive site with links to teaching and lab info at the intersection of biology and chemistry including genetics, evolution, biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, biotechnology, etc. For high school and undergraduate college levels.

The Digital Anatomist Project - Images and movies of human anatomy, from the Department of Biological Structure at the University of Washington.
Visible Human Project - animations and images of digitized sections of the human body. From the National Library of Medicine.
The Whole Brain - an information resource for central nervous system imaging which integrates clinical information with magnetic resonance (MR), x-ray computed tomography (CT), and nuclear medicine images. Images from Brigham & Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School and the American Academy of Neurology.

NIH Center for Molecular Modeling - offers an extensive listing of biochemistry sources on the web including databases, tutotials, research tools, software and other links.

Bioethics
Bioethics Resources on the Web - A site from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of bioethics resources.
Issues and Controversies - A database offering clear explanations of opposing points of view on many topics, including bioethical ones. This is a proprietary database, only available to UConn faculty, staff and students.

Botany
AlgaeBase - taxonomic data on nearly 60,000 species with images, bibliographic items and distributional records. Includes glossary. From the National University of Ireland.
A Modern Herbal - A digitized version of a classic 1931 book on the "Medicinal, Culinary, Cosmetic and Economic Properties, Cultivation and Folk-Lore of Herbs." Includes descriptions of herbs and their uses, and indexes for recipies and poisons.
Botany.Com - An encyclopedia of plants and flowers, includingcommon and taxonomic names, a dictionary of terms, pest and diseases, associations and societies.
Index Nominum Genericorum - A collaborative project of the International Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT) and the Smithsonian Institution, The ING is a compilation of generic names published for all organisms covered by the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature.
International Plant Names Index - a database of the names and associated basic bibliographical details of all seed plants. Data comes from three sources: the Royal Botanic Gardens' Index Kewensis, Harvard University's Gray Herbarium Index of New World Plant Names, and the Australian National Herbarium.
Plants Database - An easy-to-use index of native and naturalized plants in the US and its territories. Includes characteristics, images, distribution maps and taxonomic hierarchy. From the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service.
University of Connecticut Greenhouses - an index by plant family of all the plants in the extensive UConn greehouse conservatory.
W3Tropicos - Access to the Missouri Botanical Garden's VAST (VAScular Tropicos) nomenclatural database and associated authority files. Includes nomenclature, bibliographies, images, and specimens. Use taxonomic names.

BBC Evolution Website - about Charles Darwin and his book Origin of the Species and theory of evolution.
Global Invasive Species Programme - (GISP) An international effort to conserve biodiversity and limit the spread of invasive species. Contains numerous website links, acecss to a wide variety of databases concerned with invasive species around the world. Partners include CSIRO, The Nature Conservency, ICUN and CAB International.
Global Invasive Species Database - Developed by ICUN as part of the (GISP.) A searchable database with information on specific invasive species, including information on dispersal, control and management measures, life stage cycles and reproduction.
Invasive Plant Atlas of New England (IPANE) - A University of Connecticut project to provide information about the invasive plants of New England for all types of users. Includes the ability to generate map data for plant dispersal.
Invasive Species Initiative - A site from the Nature Conservancy highlighting the control and management of a range of invasive plants in the western hemisphere.
Invasivespecies.gov - A gateway to US federal government efforts on invasive species, including species profiles, laws and regulations and management issues. Includes access to a variety of invasive species databases.

GenBank - a database of nucleotide sequences from >130,000 organisms from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI.)
Genomics Primer - from the US Department of Energy Human Genome Project.
Human Genome Resources - a site for genomic information infrastructure for biomedical researchers, including OMIM, the Human Genone Project, and many other genomic resouces.

WWW Virtual Library: Model Organisms - a catalog of internet resources relating to biological model organisms used in genetics and developmental biology.

Microbiology
Protist Image Data - Pictures and information on selected genera of algae and protozoa, from the Molecular Evolution and Organelle Genomics program at the University of Montreal.Includes links to additional resources.
Microbiology Information Portal - An index of microbiology information sources on the web, from microbiologist Al Chan.

Systematics and Taxonomy
Biosis Systematics, Taxonomy & Nomenclature - Vernacular/Common Names - a variety of sites offering translation between taxonomic and common names for animals and plants. Also includes sites which translate animal names to other languages.
Integrated Taxonomic Information System - authoritative taxonomic information on plants, animals, fungi, and microbes of North America and the world. A good source for taxonomic hierarchies from either scientific or common organism names.
Journey into Phylogenetic Systematics - An introduction to cladistics from the University of California, Berkeley, Museum of Paleontology.
Species 2000 - an index with the goal of listing all known species of plants, animals, fungi and microbes on Earth as the baseline dataset for studies of global biodiversity.
Taxonomy Resources - a listing of taxonomic resources from NCBI. An excellent starting place when looking for information by taxonomic groups.

Animal Diversity Web - an database of animal natural history, distribution, classification, and conservation biology from the University of Michigan
EE-Link Endangered Species - Includes endangered species lists for plants and animals, regionally and globally.
EMBL Reptile Database - Information on the taxonomic classification of all living reptiles, including snakes, lizards, amphisbaenians and crocodiles. Includes scientific names, synonyms, distributions and related data. From the European Molecular Biology Laboratory.
EE-Link Endangered Species - Includes endangered species lists for plants and animals, regionally and globally.
Fishbase WWW - A global information system about fishes. FishBase is a relational database with information intended for research professionals such as research scientists, fisheries managers, zoologists and many more. Developed by a consortium including the FAO and the World Fish Center.
Mammal Species of the World - Contains the names of the 4,629 currently recognized species of mammals, in a taxonomic hierarchy that includes Order, Family, Subfamily, and Genus. The list was compiled under the auspices of the American Society of Mammalogists.
Natural History Resources - collections of electronic resources on various animal groups, including ornithilogy, lepidoptera and coleoptera. From the Chebucto Community Net in Nova Scotia.
