finding NURSING INFORMATION: journal title abbreviations

types of nursing information    start with a good topic    decide what kind of information you need    search for journal articles    search for books    search for statistics    evaluating search results    getting full-text    journal title abbreviations    citing sources    getting citations automatically via e-mail

It is a convention in medical publishing to use journal title abbreviations, rather than full journal titles. For example, the popular nursing journal Western Journal of Nursing Research is often abbreviated West J Nurs Res in databases and works cited pages. Through exposure to journal title abbreviations, you will grow accustomed to seeing journal title abbreviations. In time, you will even be able to guess many on your own.

There are several tools available to help you convert journal title abbreviations into full journal titles.

The best choice is PubMed Journals Database

If your journal is not included in PubMed's Journals Database, try the following sites:

Acta Med Scand
Aust N Z J Ment Health Nurs
Bull Am Coll Nurse Midwifery
Clin Nurse Spec
