Foreign Language Newspapers
in Babbidge Library
Most of the information needs for which the libraries once collected national and foreign newspapers are now met on the web or through aggregator services. The UConn libraries rely primarily on aggregator news services (LexisNexis, Factiva) for current newspaper content, and licensed databases offering facsimile access to historical newspaper content. As more content becomes available electronically, the libraries will rely less on - and maintain fewer - print and microfilm formats for access to current and archival content.
Online Access to Contemporary Newspaper Content
The following databases provide access to the last 10 to 20+ years of news content from thousands of newspapers and news wires from around the world. Access is to the text content of newspaper stories only (excluding advertisements, classified ads, obituaries, images, etc).
LexisNexis Academic
LexisNexis Academic reproduces the contents of thousands of local, national and
international newspapers, news wires and news magazines in full text. Some publications
are reproduced selectively or have abstracts only. Most titles are available from the
mid-1980s - present.
Factiva
Factiva contains full text articles from thousands of newspapers, news magazines,
news wires from around the world, including same-day and archival coverage of The Wall
Street Journal, The New York Times, Washington Post, The Globe and Mail, Financial Times,
South China Morning Post, The Australian, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, The
Irish Times and local newspapers from every corner of the globe. Coverage of more
than 500 continuously updating newswires includes the exclusive combination of Dow Jones,
Reuters, and The Associated Press, Asia Pulse, Agence France Presse, and local
newswires.
Select the ‘News Pages’ tab to browse stories in the last 2 weeks of Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post by section of the paper - front page, editorials, etc.
