This service is available to UConn faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students. (The service does not extend to the UConn Health Center or Law School communities).
In order to place requests, we ask that you first create a profile in ILLiad, if you have not already done so. This will allow us to transfer any requests that the BLC cannot fill directly into ILLiad to be filled through Interlibrary Loan. It will also allow you to place requests, using your NetID and self-chosen password, from any UConn database or directly from ILLiad. Create your profile here.
Locate the item you want in UConn WorldCat, and simply click on the Request Item button.

Most materials can be requested. Items that are not requestable include Reference, Special Collections, Reserve, journals, and other non-circulating materials.
Items requested from the BLC generally arrive in 2-4 business days. If the request cannot be filled within the BLC, the request will automatically be forwarded to Interlibrary Loan to be filled from outside of the BLC.
You will receive an email when your item becomes available.
Books have a loan period of 60 days from the day they are received by the library; media have a loan period of 7 days from the date of receipt.
BLC items have a generous loan period and are not renewable. If you need to keep your item longer, we recommend that you initiate a new request.
If the item you want is checked out, you can request the item via Interlibrary Loan. Please refer to DD-ILL's FAQ How can I borrow a book, DVD, VHS, CD, music score, or other material not owned by UConn, and follow the instructions for #2, "Use UConn WorldCat."
Yes, you can have access to the consortial libraries by obtaining a Consortium Card. You can obtain the consortium card by visiting the Babbidge Library's iDesk, or the circulation desk at any of the UConn regional campuses. Cards can be renewed as long as you are still eligible, and may not be transferred. Please see the BLC Consortium Card information page for more information on the program, including its privileges and policies, before you visit a consortia library. Borrowing privileges, loan periods, and fine policies vary at each member institution; you are responsible for any charges you accrue, and failure to abide by member library policies may result in the loss of library privileges at all BLC libraries. You should return your materials to the library you visited.
