EndNote Support Page - using EndNote with research databases licensed by the UConn Libraries

EndNote is personal bibliographic software compatible with many of the research databases licensed by the UConn Libraries. References from these research databases can be moved to EndNote using EndNote Import Filters, or via the direct export of citations to your EndNote library.

EndNote Compatibility with UConn Library Databases
EndNote Import Filters allow citations previously saved from journal research databases to be imported into an EndNote library. If the citation information is saved in the correct format, the Import Filter will correctly "filter" the bibliographic information into the correct fields within the EndNote record. Some databases allow references to be exported directly from the database into EndNote without Import Filters; see below for details. ABI-Global ProQuest n/a: ProQuest allows direct export of records into EndNote After marking and placing references in 'My Research' folder, select "Export directly to EndNote." EndNote should open on your computer; direct references to the desired EndNote library. Note that fields may need to be corrected.
AgeLine EbscoHOST n/a: EbscoHOST allows direct export of records into EndNote Search the database as usual. Place individual records you want to save into search Folder by marking them.  When done, view contents of Folder. Select All references and click on 'Export''. In Export Manager, click on 'Direct Export to EndNote, ProCite, or Reference Manager'. Click Save. The first time you perform this process, you may need to direct your browser to Open the exported references with the EndNote.exe program. After "training" your browser to perform this function, EndNote should open automatically on your computer when you export references directly. Alternative Press Index OCLC First Search Alt Press Index (OCLC) FirstSearch Databases allow direct export of citations. Search database as usual; mark the records you wish to save to EndNote, and click on 'Export'. From Direct Export Records menu, select Export to: EndNote. EndNote will open; indicate library you wish to save references to. The Import Filters menu will then open - select the filter to the left and records should then appear in the library.
America: History and Life ABC-Clio n/a: allows direct export Search database as usual. After marking desired records, click Export Options. From that menu, select EndNote format and click Export Records. EndNote will open on your computer; direct export to desired EndNote Library.
Arts & Humanities Citation Index OCLC FirstSearch ArtsHumanities (OCLC) FirstSearch Databases allow direct export of citations. Search database as usual; mark the records you wish to save to EndNote, and click on 'Export'. From the Direct Export Records window select 'Export to EndNote'. EndNote will open; indicate library you wish to save references to. The Import Filters menu will then open - select the filter to the left and records should then appear in the library.
ASFA: Aquatic Sciences & Fisheries Abstracts Cambridge Scientific Abstracts ASFA (CSA) 1. From the CSA search results screen, click on 'Save/Print/Email'.

2. On the 'Save/Print/Email' screen, select the following:

Records: Marked or All
Record Format: Full Record
Save File Format: PC or Mac (as appropriate)

3. Click the 'Save' button. Your web browser will ask you where to save the file. If your web browser gives you the option to save in different file formats, be sure to save as a "Text Only (*.txt)" file. Import into EndNote using the correct filter.
 
BIOSIS Previews SilverPlatter(SPIRS) BIOSIS Previews (SP) DOWNLOADING INSTRUCTIONS:
Once you've obtained your search results, click on "Save" or "E-mail" icon. Select the following options:
- Save these fields: Complete record
- Also save: Field names with short labels, record number and database name.
Click the "Save" or "E-mail" button. Save as a text-only file (.*txt).

Historical Abstracts ABC-Clio n/a : database allows direct export Search database as usual. After marking desired records, click Export Options. From that menu, select EndNote format and click Export Records. EndNote will open on your computer; direct export to desired EndNote Library.
HOMER - UConn Libraries' Catalog   download Connection File to connect directly to HOMER (7/28/06: change in HOMER server requires new settings -please download this updated Connection File) Install HOMER Connection Files in the Connections folder where EndNote is installed on your computer, and then locate and mark it in the Connection File Manager within EndNote. The database can then be connected to directly from the Connect command on the File menu.
