Policies & Procedures
The Library Classrooms are intended primarily for bibliographic instruction (BI)
by library staff. It is also recognized that there is a significant amount of
staff training that necessitates the use of the classroom space and its facilities.
Every effort will be made to accomodate these requests.
The Library Classrooms are not available for teaching, meeting, demonstrations, or training by persons or groups not affiliated with the Libraries. Exceptions can be made in instances where the person or group has a library contact (liaison) who will work with them to use the room in accordance with these policies and procedures.
If a Library Classroom is not scheduled for a BI session, it may be booked by library staff for meetings, demonstrations, and staff training. Library staff should attempt to find other rooms for these purposes whenever possible, particularly during the fall and spring semesters and during the month of July.
Public rooms within the library are available to non-library groups and individuals.
Librarians may require class instructor presence at a library session to ensure the best quality learning environment for students.
Scheduling
Library Staff: Any library staff member may schedule the classrooms -
Electronic Classroom 1 (Level 1), Electronic Classroom 2 (Level 2), Library Lecture Center (Level 2), and Undergraduate Research Center (Level 1)
note: Undergraduate Research Centeris reserved Monday – Thursday during the academic year for the exclusive use of English 110/111 classes. It is available for other uses on Fridays.
Please try to schedule the room that is most appropriate to class size
and content (room
descriptions).
Outside Requests (non-library): Requests for instruction and/or for the use of the classrooms are referred to the appropriate Liaison Librarian. Requests for instruction/classrooms in areas that do not have a clearly designated liaison (e.g., non-academic departments and non-University groups) should be referred to a classroom coordinator - Richard Bleiler (486-1246) or Susanna Cowan (486.1265).
With at least 48 hours notice, a BI session may bump a non-BI session. If this occurs, the person bumping must personally inform the person who's session has been bumped.

Hardware/Software
Changes made to hardware and/or software configurations of the instructor’s
workstation, hands-on workstations, and display equipment for the purposes
of a particular class, demo, meeting, training, etc., must be temporary.
Anybody
who makes any changes is responsible for restoring all equipment to its
original configurations.
Permanent changes to hardware and/or software configurations of the instructor’s workstation, hands-on workstations, and display equipment will be coordinated between ITS (Information Technology Services) and a member of EdOut (Education Outreach). EdOut and ITS will work together to check workstation functionality after changes are made.
Each semester, a cleanup of the hard drives on the projection stations and hands-on workstations should be initiated. ITS and RIS will work together to determine which programs/files and versions should be kept, upgraded, purged, etc.
Staff who experience technical problems should phone the IT Services Desk at 486-5949.
Staff using the classrooms for instruction, training, or demonstration purposes are responsible for checking the equipment and necessary software programs in advance of the scheduled activity.
Physical Arrangement of the Room
Any person or group who moves the furniture in the room must return
it to its original configuration. Instructors or groups are also responsible
for keeping the room clean and secure (removing all handouts and other
papers brought in to the classroom; erasing the board; locking the door,
etc.).
